Imphal: Security forces and Manipur Police arrested nine suspected militants and an alleged arms dealer during a massive, multi-district crackdown on August 1. Officers targeted outfits including the Kangleipak Communist Party, People’s Liberation Army, Revolutionary People’s Front, NSCN-K, and People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak. The sweep covered Thoubal, Tamenglong, Kakching, Chandel, Imphal West, and Imphal East districts.
In Imphal West, police picked up 24-year-old RPF/PLA cadre Wahengbam Mayday Singh at his Awangkhunou Lamkhai home. Bishnupur district saw the arrest of another RPF/PLA member, 41-year-old Ngangbam Nanao Singh, at his Wangoo Ahallup Sanasam Leikai residence. In Tamenglong, forces nabbed 32-year-old NSCN-K cadre Lungthaukhon Panmei along National Highway-37. Officers found him with a Baofeng radio, 13 receipt memos from the "Government of Republic of Nagaland," seven official tokens, and 2,800 rupees.
Police also caught Laishram Lakpati Singh, 56, in Imphal East. They recovered a No. 36 hand grenade and ten 9mm rounds from his possession. Officials claim he managed the illegal sale of weapons and explosives. Meanwhile, search teams combed the forest near Border Pillars 72 and 73 in Tengnoupal. They found a 9mm pistol, a double-barrel gun, six radio sets, and two hand grenades. Experts destroyed six IEDs at that site.
Investigators say the militants used the guise of collecting "subscriptions" to extort locals and kidnap targets. Operations are now intensifying. Authorities established 111 checkpoints across hill and valley regions. They also deployed teams to secure the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway. DGP Mukesh Singh recently visited the 1st Battalion of the Manipur Rifles to review operational protocols. The state police issued a sharp warning against sharing digital rumors. They told the public: "verify information before sharing videos or messages on social media."
