Imphal: Security forces neutralized three improvised explosive devices in Manipur. The bombs weighed 20 kilograms. Troops from the Spear Corps and Manipur Police found the explosives in a jungle between Leishabithol and Ahamadabad in Jiribam district. They finished a controlled demolition on site to stop any risk to the public.
Violence hit elsewhere in the state on Thursday night. An attacker threw a grenade at the residence of Congress MLA Keisham Meghachandra Singh in Thoubal district around 8.15 pm. The blast damaged the western side of the home. Nobody suffered injuries in the explosion. Officials have yet to name a suspect or explain the motive.
Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh ordered a police investigation into the blast. Neighbors and the All Yairipok Apunba Ima Lup held a sit-in to support the politician. Members of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee slammed the incident as a strike against the democratic process. Vice-president Hareshwar Goshwami demanded answers at a press conference on Friday.
Goshwami urged any group responsible to reveal their identity. He stated, "Political disagreements must be addressed through dialogue rather than violence." No group has claimed the attack so far.
