Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh called a high-level security meeting at his Imphal secretariat Thursday evening. The session followed the killings of five civilians along IT Road in Kangpokpi district. The state government issued a sharp condemnation of the attack. Singh ordered security forces to track down the killers and ensure they face justice immediately.
This emergency session arrived shortly after a 15-day ultimatum Singh set on August 12. He had demanded that anyone holding illegal weapons turn them in. Security brass decided to get tough. The administration will now take stringent action against any person caught with illegal arms, regardless of their community.
Cadres currently under Suspension of Operations or involved in peace talks face strict oversight. "The security meeting decided that stringent action would be taken against any individual, irrespective of community, found possessing illegal arms and weapons." Officers confirmed that any SoO members found with guns outside designated camps will face consequences.
The meeting included Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, and DGP Mukesh Singh. Representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the 57th Mountain Division, CRPF, Assam Rifles, BSF, SSB, and SIB also attended. They are coordinating a unified response to the violence.

The high-level meeting took place on the evening of August 27. Officials confirmed a wider roster of participants attended, including the Joint Secretary (NE) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the ADGP for Intelligence and Law and Order, the State Home Commissioner, and the IGs for CRPF and both the East and South sectors of the Assam Rifles.
