Imphal: Unidentified gunmen sprayed a local eatery with bullets in Imphal East on August 22. The attack happened around 2:10 am at Khurai Lamlong Keithel. The building sits under the jurisdiction of the Porompat Police Station. Nobody died. Nobody was hurt.

The business belongs to Koijam Joymati, who lives directly across the street. Attackers fired four to five rounds into the shop, which is famous for selling Khechri. Bullets tore through the structure, shattering utensils and smashing plastic chairs. The shop was locked up for the night when the shooting started.

Local residents gathered for a sit-in protest shortly after the attack. They marched to condemn the violence and demanded safety for their neighborhood businesses. They want an end to these attacks on civilian property. One protestor stated, "They are targeting our livelihoods."

Porompat police filed a formal case and started a manhunt for the shooters. Officers are currently working to pin down a motive for the drive-by. Authorities have increased security patrols throughout the area to prevent further violence.
