Itanagar: Itanagar is updating the annual Solung festival. Organizers launched Irgang to connect the Adi community with youth. The event blends ancient heritage with modern street culture. It runs for two days, focusing on music, art, and sport.
The lineup features skateboard jams, BMX stunts, and B-Boying battles. Local bands like The Genesis, Khrimey, and Lego Sisters take the stage alongside DJ sets. Traditional Ponung dance circles remain a central piece of the festivities. Visitors can also explore local food pop-ups, cafes, and displays of Adi artifacts.
Irgang board member David Gao hopes the platform helps young people connect with their roots. He described the event as a way to package cultural significance for a new audience. "Pomp and gaiety" is the essence of Irgang, Gao said.
Solung is the largest socio-religious and agricultural festival for the Adi people. It takes place every year during the first week of September. The five-day harvest celebration honors prosperity, protection, and fertility. Irgang aims to keep these traditional elements alive while keeping the format fresh.
