Itanagar: Heavy rain in the hills sent the Haora River surging late Saturday, August 22. Water levels spiked, pushing the river to 10.90 metres. This breached the critical mark and threatened nearby homes. More than 1,000 residents in low-lying areas now face displacement.

Floodwaters poured into houses across the Sadar and Jirania subdivisions. The hardest hit spots include Baldakhal, Chandrapur, Srilanka Basti, Aralia, and Indranagar. Localities near the Katakhal Canal also remain submerged.

The administration mobilized the Tripura State Rifles and local police. They deployed four boats to pull people from rising water. District Magistrate Vishal Kumar confirmed six relief camps are active to shelter those forced out. While rain slowed today, crews work around the clock. No deaths have occurred yet.

Chief Minister Manik Saha ordered officials to act fast. "The concerned District Magistrates and Sub-Divisional Magistrates have been instructed to take all necessary and appropriate measures," Saha stated. The Agartala Municipal Corporation continues to distribute supplies to victims. Officials warned residents to stay alert as water levels remain high.
