Aizawl: Security forces swept through Mizoram between July 24 and 26. They seized drugs and smuggled areca nuts worth 14.2 crore. Seven suspects now sit in custody. The operations involved the Assam Rifles, Mizoram Police, Excise and Narcotics Department, intelligence agencies, and the Customs Preventive Force.
Assam Rifles and police hit Sairang on July 24. They recovered 2.18 kg of methamphetamine tablets, known as the "crazy drug," worth 6.57 crore. Four suspects went to jail. Officers also grabbed two vehicles and four mobile phones. The Sairang Police Station is leading the investigation under the NDPS Act.
Saitual district saw action on July 25. Officers intercepted 67 grams of heroin inside six soap cases near the Manipur border. The haul, valued at 50.25 lakh, led to one arrest and the seizure of a mobile phone. On that same day, troops seized 501 bags of areca nuts weighing 40,080 kg on the Champhai-Khawzawl road. Customs officials now hold the 4.12 crore shipment.
Siasi village served as the final site on July 26. Assam Rifles and the Excise and Narcotics Department recovered 401 grams of heroin worth nearly 3 crore. Two Myanmar nationals were arrested along with two mobile phones. Officials claim these raids hit hard against cross-border trafficking along the international frontier. Total recovery included 468 grams of heroin, 40.08 tonnes of areca nuts, and seven mobile phones.
