Manipur Groups Unite for October 31 Rally Against Suspension of Operations Pact

Imphal: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity and the United Naga Council are teaming up for a massive protest on October 31. The rally demands the government scrap the Suspension of Operations agreement with Kuki militants. Organizers also want an end to the proxy war and a plan to return displaced people to their homes.

The march starts at Tiddim Ground and ends at Thangmeiband Thau Ground for a public meeting. Groups involved include the Joint Tribe Council, the Naga Humanitarian Aid Committee, the Foothills Naga Coordination Committee, and the Naga People's Union, Imphal. They want to show a united front. The event theme is Chingmi-Tammi, meaning hill and valley.

Violence has plagued the state since May 3, 2023. COCOMI convenor Y.K. Dhiren blamed the government for the killing of three civilians near Khongbal. He addressed the press at his Lamphel office. Dhiren said, "The programme would provide a common platform to press for the organisations' demands."

The UNC claims the security situation is falling apart. They view the Assam Rifles as partisan and want them replaced with neutral central forces. The council directed all district apex bodies and tribe Hohos to mobilize participants for the rallies held at various district headquarters. They say the move is vital to defend ancestral land and local identity.
