Imphal: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity announced its full support for the United Naga Council economic blockade. The group blames the government for failing to stop the violence that started May 3, 2023. This ongoing crisis destroyed infrastructure and displaced countless citizens. Thousands remain trapped in fear.
COCOMI claims the double-engine government lacks the will to solve the unrest. The organization insists justice remains elusive for civilians killed since the fighting began. They pointed to a gruesome incident from June where suspected militants from Lailon Vaiphei village kidnapped and murdered members of the Liangmai community. Their bodies were found in poor condition days later. Currently, six more bodies wait at the JNIMS mortuary for post-mortem exams.
The United Naga Council presented four demands to address the conflict. COCOMI urged the administration to negotiate on September 20, but officials ignored the plea. "The continued failure to address the issues reflected a disregard for the concerns and suffering of the people," the group stated. With no official response, COCOMI plans to ramp up protest activities to match the blockade.
