Manipur Farmers Postpone Protest Over Missing Compensation

Imphal: The COCOMI Farmers Wing has scrapped its planned August 18 mass rally. Conflict in Manipur keeps growers off their land. They have missed three full seasons of cultivation.

Convenor Shyam Khuman cited bureaucratic failure. The Ministry of Home Affairs reportedly cleared funds for 2024 to 2025 compensation. Yet, the money stays locked in government accounts. Khuman said, "The Agriculture Department and the State Government have failed to properly address the concerns of affected farmers."

Protesters want their pay now. They also demand open access to fields, cheap fertilizer, and better protection for farmland. The group plans to set a new protest date if officials keep dragging their feet.
