TNFO demands closure of all SoO camps following Sunurok attack

Imphal: The Tangkhul Naga Foothills Organisation (TNFO) wants 14 Suspension of Operations camps sealed. The demand follows a violent attack near Khongbal Tangkhul village, also known as Sunurok, on October 19. Security forces took over the ShamuShang Sinai camp after the incident. They found guns and explosives there.

This discovery proves a failure to enforce basic ground rules. The TNFO issued a statement via its Information Cell praising the Manipur government, local police, the CRPF CoBRA Battalion, and the Assam Rifles for their response. "The reported recovery of firearms, explosives and other combat equipment from the camp had raised serious questions about the monitoring and enforcement of SoO ground rules," the group stated.

The organization now demands a full physical and biometric audit for every remaining camp. Officials must check occupants against official registration records. They need to count every weapon and verify total cadre strength. The TNFO also wants an impartial investigation into the Kuki National Army and Kuki Liberation Army. They believe these groups may share links with the KRA and KNF-P. Authorities must also probe the Sunurok attack for intelligence failures and security lapses.
