PREPAK Sets Martyrs’ Remembrance Day for November 12

Imphal: The People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) will mark November 12 as Athoubasinggi Ningsing Numit, or Martyrs’ Remembrance Day. The group demands a halt to all celebrations that day. They asked residents to light lamps at home at dusk to honor cadres who died fighting for the sovereignty of Kangleipak. PREPAK has observed this date since 1979.

LeibaakNgaakpa Luwang, the group's Charge de Affairs for Publicity and Propaganda, issued the statement. It recounts the November 12, 1978, raid by CRPF and Manipur Police on a transit camp at Leimarok in Kameng. Three cadres died: Dhiren alias Angam and Kabikanta alias Leingam of PREPAK, plus Gambhir of the PLA. The group also remembers leader RK Tulachandra alias Loyataba, who died on November 12, 1985, while guarding the Sugar Factory complex at Kabowakching.

PREPAK blames Indian policies for human rights violations and the suppression of indigenous identity. They allege security forces carry out arbitrary arrests, torture, and enforced disappearances. The group also expressed alarm regarding current tensions between Naga, Kuki, and Meitei communities. They warned that these divisions weaken their political struggle.

The organization pushed for unity among students, farmers, and intellectuals to oppose systemic oppression. They rejected ethnic nationalism in favor of a shared movement. Referencing the work of Prof. Naorem Sanajaoba, the statement noted: "the survival of a people depended on their determination to preserve their identity, history and collective strength."
