PREPAK Marks 49th Anniversary With Calls for Regional Unity

Imphal: The proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak, or PREPAK, marked its 49th foundation day on October 9. The group held ceremonies across various internal sites, including its Central and General Headquarters, the 707 Mobile Battalion, four base areas, a Tactical Headquarters, a training centre, and a transit camp.

Mangal Khuman, a publicity officer for the group, confirmed the events involved both hill and valley populations. At the Central Headquarters, Chairman Aheiba Angom led the proceedings. He hoisted the group’s flag and criticized India for imposing an exploitative system of governance. Angom claimed these policies caused widespread economic distress and social uncertainty.

The group alleged that India utilizes armed groups as proxies to further political aims. Angom urged local communities to end inter-community hostility. He stated, “Collective strength and solidarity were necessary to confront the situation and safeguard the region’s future.”

Red Army Chief of Army Staff Romi Meitei presided over the General Headquarters event. He paid tribute to fallen members with gun salutes and accused the Indian government of deploying Kuki armed groups to commit violence. Meitei insisted on bolstering the group’s armed wing to counter this strategy.

Base Area Secretary Langamba led the ceremony at the United Base Area. He called for a return to the struggles of past generations to achieve what he termed a sovereign Kangleipak. The organization thanked supporters across the Western South East Asia region for their messages on the anniversary. These allegations remain unverified.
