Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh pledged to build a permanent campus for the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Manipur. He spoke Tuesday, August 4, at the institute’s 13th convocation inside Imphal’s City Convention Centre. The government is currently meeting with stakeholders to secure land for the project quickly.
Khemchand Singh credited Kakching MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwar Singh for his support in pushing the proposal forward. He noted that NIT Manipur is rising as a premier technical school in the Northeast. The graduates, he said, are key to building the nation.
Students from Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering degrees heard how they factor into the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. The Chief Minister urged the crowd to aim for excellence. He said, "Strive for excellence, become innovators, administrators and leaders, and dedicate their knowledge and skills to the progress of both Viksit Bharat and Viksit Manipur."
Chairperson of the Board of Governors Bajrang Lal Bagra also took the stage. He told the new graduates to base their work on integrity, innovation, and service. He reminded them that education must be guided by ethics and compassion to make a real impact on the country.
The Chief Minister, Bagra, and NIT Manipur Director Prof. D.V.L.N. Somayajulu handed out gold medals and awards to top students. Registrar Prof. Khumukcham Tomba Singh, faculty, staff, parents, and members of the Board of Governors and Academic Senate also filled the venue.
