Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh urged citizens to embrace the values of unity and social justice on September 26. He spoke at the 75th death anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irawat. The event occurred at the Lamyanba Irawat Statue Complex in Pishumthong Oinam Leikai, Imphal.
Organizers included the Department of Art and Culture and the Irawat Memorial Charitable Trust. Khemchand Singh laid flowers at the base of the leader's statue before opening new public facilities at the site. The Chief Minister noted that Irawat fought against British rule starting in the 1930s. He said, "His legacy should continue to guide future generations."
Irawat led movements to unite diverse communities across the state. Officials attending the ceremony included Arts and Culture Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh, along with MLAs Karam Shyam and Sapam Nishikanta Singh. The Chief Minister tasked the present generation with maintaining Irawat's progressive outlook and his deep commitment to the welfare of the people of Manipur.

Khemchand Singh noted that Irawat sacrificed his own personal interests during a time when the movement for political change and a just society had not yet gained traction. He credited Irawat's vision for helping the cultural identity of the Manipuri people gain recognition on the world stage.
