Manipur Disability Cricket Group Pushes for Support and Legal Reform

Imphal: The Disabled Development Association Manipur is demanding more support for disability cricket. Md. Yunus Khan, the group's General Secretary, says the association has bankrolled its own national championship bids since 2004. They need help now. The association functions as the Manipur affiliate for the Differently Abled Cricket Council of India.

National momentum is building. DCCI officials met in Delhi on September 18, 2026, with BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The BCCI promised to back disability cricket at both national and state levels. Interested players in Manipur can reach the association at 9862660332 to start playing.

Beyond sports, the group blasted state authorities for neglecting the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. Khan claims most government departments, excluding the Social Welfare Department, ignore the law. "The association stated that it has been promoting cricket among persons with disabilities in Manipur since 2004, relying on its own resources to participate in national championships."

Progress remains uneven. The group praised the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports for inviting them to shape the draft Manipur State Sports Policy, 2026. They thanked YAS Minister Govindas Konthoujam and Director Veto for the two-day consultation. The association hopes the final policy mandates better inclusion for athletes with disabilities.
