Imphal: The Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) wants 29 NEET-PG 2026 exam centers moved out of Churachandpur. They cite serious safety risks linked to the state's ethnic conflict. The student group filed formal requests with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, Inner Manipur MP Dr. Bimol Akoijam, and Rajya Sabha MP A. Sharda. The group needs action now.

These 29 candidates originally requested test sites in Imphal, Thoubal, Bishnupur, or Kakching. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) assigned them to Churachandpur instead. DESAM argues that crossing district lines forces students through volatile areas and guarded buffer zones. This segregation stems from tensions starting in May 2023.

Travel creates stress. The group claims this psychological burden hurts student performance. They stated, "The request was aimed at ensuring that candidates are able to sit for the examination in a secure and accessible environment without being disadvantaged by the prevailing conflict."

The test is August 30. DESAM insists officials must coordinate with the NBEMS to shift these locations immediately. Students need a safe place to test.
