Imphal: Kuki civil society groups in Churachandpur handed local authorities a 48-hour ultimatum. They want the suspension and prosecution of Central Security Forces personnel accused of storming the PC Nursing Home in Tuibong on August 15. The forces allegedly entered the hospital at night to remove a patient, firing live rounds inside the building.
Kuki Inpi Churachandpur, the Kuki Chiefs Association, Kuki Khanglai Lawmpi, Kuki Students’ Organisation, Kuki Women Union, and Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights signed the joint statement. The groups detailed how bystanders tried to intervene and protect the patient before the situation turned violent. Staff, attendants, and sick patients scrambled in panic as gunfire erupted.
The organizations branded the raid a "brutal invasion" of a place meant for healing. They sent the demands to the Churachandpur Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police. Accountability is the primary goal. If officials do not identify and charge the responsible personnel within two days, the groups plan to cut ties with the local administration and start protests.
Public calls for an impartial investigation into the use of live ammunition in medical spaces are growing. For now, the groups are urging the public to stay calm while they wait for a response.
