Guwahati: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee kicked four party leaders out of the Indian National Congress on Sunday. This move came with immediate effect. APCC president Gaurav Gogoi ordered the purge. He serves as deputy leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha. General Secretary Ramanna Baruah signed the official notice.

The list of fired members includes former Dhubri MLA Rasul Hoque, also known as Bahadur. Rezaul Islam, a former zilla parishad member and Dhubri ticket seeker, also got the boot. The purge hit Mohir Uddin Mondal, general secretary of the Dhubri District Congress Committee, and Afzal Hussain, an anchalik panchayat member from the Matchichar gram panchayat. Party officials did not state why they took this disciplinary action. "The APCC order, however, did not specify the reasons or particular allegations that led to the disciplinary action against the four leaders." The decision effectively ends their primary membership in the Congress party.

The purge occurred on Sunday, August 16. Officials identified Rezaul Islam by his nickname, Rinku. The party move impacts leaders at both the constituency and local levels, marking a significant organizational shift for the state unit under Gogoi.
