Guwahati: Gaurav Gogoi welcomed Bhupesh Baghel as the new AICC general secretary in-charge of the Assam Congress on Sunday, September 6. The party announced the move during a Saturday reshuffle. Baghel moves from Punjab, where he previously handled party affairs before the state assembly elections.

Baghel is a veteran Congress leader. He served as the chief minister of Chhattisgarh from 2018 to 2023. He also acted as an AICC observer for Assam during the recent assembly elections. Gogoi praised the new appointment on social media. "We in Assam look forward to working with AICC GS Shri @bhupeshbaghel ji. His experience and guidance will be invaluable for us," he wrote.

Gogoi also addressed the exit of Jitendra Singh. Singh held the post for several years but resigned after the party lost the state assembly polls. Gogoi thanked Singh for his past mentorship. He noted his gratitude for Singh’s stewardship of the party during his tenure.
