John Chowdhury Slams Six-Year Congress Suspension

Guwahati: Shamsur Rahman Chowdhury, known as John, is fighting back. The former vice-president of the Silchar District Congress Committee slammed his six-year suspension during a Thursday press conference. He demands the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee explain why he faces discipline despite quitting the party before the Assembly elections.

Chowdhury insists he handed in his formal resignation on March 29 at the district office. He holds an acknowledgment receipt from the party. Even so, leadership later suspended him for alleged anti-party activities. The move affects 12 of the 14 leaders recently punished by Pradesh Congress president Gaurav Gogoi. Chowdhury says all 12 had already left the party.

He challenged the leadership to prove their actions were legal. "If I had officially resigned from the party before the election, on what basis was I suspended for violating party discipline or engaging in anti-party activities?" Chowdhury asked.

The veteran politician blasted Gaurav Gogoi. He questioned the president's political experience and maturity while demanding transparency. Chowdhury is now prepping for a possible court battle to clear his name.
