Guwahati: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee axed 14 party members today. The purge hits hard. They face a six-year suspension effective immediately for sabotaging the party during the 2026 Assam Assembly election. General Secretary Ramanna Baruah signed the order after APCC president Gaurav Gogoi greenlit the move.

The sweep targets the Silchar District Congress Committee, the Assam Youth Congress, and units in Sonai. The list of suspended leaders includes Silchar DCC vice-presidents Samsur Rahman Choudhury, Aktar Hussain Barbhuiya, and Mojibur Rahman Choudhury. General secretaries Ajmol Hussain Laskar, Shaine Ahmed Laskar, Mehboob Hussain, Hanif Alam Mazumder, Altaf Hussain Laskar, and Najib Ahmed Laskar also got the boot. The party axed Assam Youth Congress general secretary Ijaj Laskar, Minority Department general secretary Jahur Choudhury, Sonai BCC general secretary Kadir Ahmed Laskar, former District Minority Department president Ansar Hussain Barlaskar, and Sonai Youth Congress president Rakib Ahmed Mazumder.

"The 14 leaders were found to have been involved in activities against the party during the Assam Assembly election," the official order stated. These men must walk away from all party duties for the next six years.

Top brass at the AICC are in the loop. The party fired copies to General Secretary K C Venugopal and Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh. They also notified the APCC war room, social media teams, and the Silchar District Congress Committee. The leadership wants total compliance.
