Viral Video Sparks Voter Fraud Probe in Silchar

Guwahati: A viral social media clip has plunged the first Silchar Municipal Corporation election into chaos. Critics now demand answers regarding voter verification protocols. The footage shows a man identified as Shahid Laskar, also called Moina, allegedly casting a ballot in Ward 3. Laskar lives in Dayapur, an area under a panchayat jurisdiction.

Laskar reportedly filmed himself inside the polling station on Saturday. He uploaded the footage to Facebook before deleting the post. The incident highlights serious gaps in how officials track voter credentials. Voters are wondering how a panchayat resident bypassed security to vote in a municipal race.

“The controversy centres on the question of whether Laskar is a registered voter in a panchayat area and, if so, how he was allowed to vote in the Silchar Municipal Corporation election,” according to local reports. Officials remain silent. They have not confirmed if the voter used valid credentials or if the video represents an actual breach of the voting process. No authorities have publicly addressed the conduct of polling staff at the site.
