Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced government approval for two new Ramakrishna Mission colleges during a visit to Itanagar. The new institutions will open in Aalo and Narottam Nagar to expand higher education opportunities. The state is currently evaluating existing infrastructure to launch classes as soon as possible.
Khandu inaugurated a new 33kV power substation and Phase-II staff quarters at the Ramakrishna Mission Hospital on Sunday. The power plant will provide electricity exclusively to the hospital facility. The new quarters house 18 staff members. He also recognized doctors and nurses for their service. Officials present included Home Minister Mama Natung and Vice-President of Ramakrishna Math Rev Swami Suhitananda Ji Maharaj.
The Mission’s ties to the state run deep. It started with a school in Aalo in 1966. The hospital opened in Itanagar during the late 1970s. Khandu praised these roots. "Several generations of students from the Mission’s institutions, particularly Aalo and Narottam Nagar, had gone on to hold key positions in government and public life," he said.
Expansion plans do not stop at colleges. The government aims to boost the hospital to 200 beds. Officials are also reviewing a proposal for a dedicated water supply system. Plans for a new school in Lamdung remain on the table to help East Kameng district. Meanwhile, the state is growing its medical footprint. MBBS seats at TRIHMS doubled to 100 recently. A second college is coming to Namsai, and a third is planned for the West Kameng-Tawang region.
The government is also reviewing a project report to replace aging hospital quarters built in the 1970s and 1980s. Khandu promised to push the Planning Department for quick approval on the first phase of that work.
