Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu handed out appointment orders and posting locations to 21 new assistant professors on Thursday. The recruitment fills essential teaching vacancies in government colleges across the state under the Department of Education. With the current academic session already in full swing, Khandu ordered the new hires to report to their assigned stations immediately.
The selection process moved fast. The Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission advertised the positions on January 22, 2026. Officials conducted interviews on August 18 and 19, declaring results that same day. Out of 263 applicants across five subjects, only 21 made the cut. This means roughly one in 12 applicants succeeded.
Mathematics and Chemistry grabbed six spots each. Physics followed with five appointees, while Anthropology and Sociology received two each. Sociology saw the fiercest competition with 86 candidates fighting for two slots. Chemistry drew 50 applicants, Physics 48, and Mathematics 47, while Anthropology saw 32 hopefuls.
Khandu credited the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission and the Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board for ensuring a merit-based, transparent selection process. He emphasized that the quality of human resources dictates the state's future success. "We hurriedly called for giving away the appointment letters along with posting places to all successful Assistant Professors because we cannot delay the process as we are already into the middle of the academic session," Khandu stated.
The event took place in the presence of Chief Secretary Manish Kumar Gupta, Advisor to Education Mutchu Mithi, and various department secretaries. Families watched as the new faculty members received their orders. Khandu pushed the professors to show the same dedication in the classroom that earned them their jobs.
