Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu handed appointment orders to 131 newly recruited Post-Graduate Teachers on Thursday. The ceremony, held in Itanagar by the General Administration Department, finalized a recruitment cycle that began last year. Officials confirmed 5,774 people applied for the positions. Only 131 made the final cut.
The Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission oversaw the selection. They processed 5,726 applicants for the preliminary exam on November 2, 2025. Then, 1,356 candidates moved to the mains held February 11 and 12, 2026. Finally, 337 reached interviews conducted between May 18 and May 28, 2026. The recruitment process began with an advertisement on August 10, 2025.
Khandu credited the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission and the Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board for the efficiency. He said the agencies are now models of merit. "Today, both institutions have become symbols of transparency and merit-based recruitment," the Chief Minister said. He added that the overhaul followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push for sector-wide reforms.
The state is currently pushing Mission Shikshit Arunachal-2029 to overhaul schooling. Officials have already merged 600 under-utilized schools to create better-equipped hubs. The plan prioritizes infrastructure and staffing over simple expansion. Khandu urged the new teachers to serve as mentors in this new system.
The Chief Minister also cheered the performance of female candidates in recent exams. He pointed to the state's success in sports, noting that Arunachal Pradesh is now the second-best performer in the Northeast during National Games. Furthermore, he highlighted a scholarship program covering 70 to 75 percent of costs for students attending top 150 universities globally under the QS World University Rankings.
