Itanagar: Rezina Mihu is heading to the national stage. He is the first person from Arunachal Pradesh elected as Vice Chairperson of the Integrated Mountain Initiative. The group pushes for sustainable growth across India's rugged mountain states. Dr. Satyadeep S. Chhetri served as the returning officer for the 2026 Governing Council election results announced this past Saturday.
The new leadership team will serve through 2029. STS Lepcha of Uttarakhand takes the lead as Chairperson. Roshan Rai from Darjeeling steps in as Secretary. Binita Shah of Uttarakhand takes the joint secretary and treasurer role, while Priyadarshini Shreshtha of Sikkim serves as joint secretary. The organization stated that Mihu’s rise "reflects his sustained work on sustainable mountain development and community empowerment."
The council added six new members to the ranks. Rajan Kotru and MP Sood represent Himachal Pradesh. Amba Jamir hails from Nagaland. GS Rawat represents Uttarakhand, Jigmet Takpa comes from Ladakh, and Prof. John Zothanzama joins from Mizoram. These officials oversee policy advocacy, water security, and community empowerment efforts.
Mihu previously built his reputation as the secretary of the Students’ Development Forum Arunachal in Itanagar. His elevation marks a win for regional mountain advocates. The formal transition of power will take place at a later date.
