Itanagar: Durga Puja festivities kicked off October 17 in the East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh. Pandals across Pasighat lit up as crowds arrived to pray. The committee at GTC Children’s Park stepped up for its third year. They picked a theme centered on drug awareness, forest protection, and a cleaner environment. It is a big mission.
Chief Councillor Tagom Padung led the charge. The committee used the event to warn youth about the dangers of drug addiction. They also urged citizens to defend local wildlife and trees. Cultural competitions brought together people from various tribes and regions, filling the park with activity.
MLA Tapi Darang attended as chief guest with his wife. Padma Shri recipient Yanung Jamoh Lego served as guest of honour. She also performed the puja. Deputy Chief Councillor Kamin Lego and Market Councillor Rahul Tamuk joined the MLA on site. The committee continues to blend religious tradition with social advocacy. Organizers noted their goal is simple: "The annual celebration is organised at the Gram Sevika Training Centre in Pasighat Children’s Park, with a different theme to combine religious festivities with messages of social and environmental awareness."
