Shillong: Meghalaya turned heads in New Delhi this week. The state launched its first official OTT platform, Hello Meghalaya, at the Film Expo India held at Bharat Mandapam. The pavilion pulled in roughly 300 visitors on its opening day alone.
Big names from Bollywood took notice. Directors, actors, and tech innovators packed the stall to discuss future projects. Vindu Dara Singh, a veteran actor, confirmed his plans for the region. "I intend to shoot a film in the state soon," he stated. Nixon D’Cruz, the associate director of the hit film Pushpa, also scouted the area for talent and future collaborations. Filmmaker Ashwin Nayak echoed this, praising the deep creative reservoir within the state's tribal communities.
Managed by My Meg Ltd, the platform provides a digital stage for local filmmakers, musicians, and creators. It uses a viewership-based revenue model to help artists monetize their work. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma aims to build a sustainable creative ecosystem for the state’s youth.
The push is backed by the Meghalaya Film Tourism Policy 2025, a key component of Vision 2032. It offers producers single-window clearances via the Invest Meghalaya Portal and subsidies reaching up to ₹1 crore or 25% of total production costs. Extra grants are available for crews that hire local talent or premiere work on the Hello Meghalaya platform.
Results are already hitting the screen. The production of the feature film Baa Baa Black Sheep finished in just 25 days. The project hired nearly 2,000 local youth. Beyond film, the expo featured a fashion showcase highlighting indigenous textiles from across the Northeast. The government wants to turn the state into a permanent filming hub.
