Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu ordered his Chief Secretary to evaluate new infrastructure needs for the Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board. Workloads are climbing. The directive came Wednesday during the inauguration of a new conference hall at the APSSB office.
Khandu founded the board under the 2018 Act to centralize hiring for Group C and D positions. It replaced a fragmented departmental system previously prone to inconsistency. Since 2019, the board has held 38 exams. It has cleared 5,836 candidates for government roles. Currently, the board is running its 39th exam, the Common Higher Secondary Level Examination for 2026.
The Chief Minister wants more manpower and better technical capacity to keep up with the volume. He hinted that moving the entire establishment might be required. “I still believe that the reform we brought into the recruitment system by creating the Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board is historic in itself. Perhaps we do not realize its significance fully today, but in the years to come we will understand it much better,” Khandu said.
The board is ISO-certified. It now operates alongside the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission, which manages Group A and B hiring. Khandu claims the change has forced the state's youth to prioritize study and hard work. He also noted that the government has adopted a common preparation framework to help locals bridge the gap between state exams and the UPSC.
Khandu emphasized that he views the board as a crucial career pipeline for young employees. The government recently approved proposals to boost the weightage of relevant experience for staff. Future hiring remains a top priority. “There can be no compromise when it comes to the Public Service Commission and the Staff Selection Board. Strengthening these two institutions is the responsibility of the government,” he said.
