MLA Plans Irabot Memorial Park in Myanmar

Imphal: MLA L. Susindro plans to build a Mausoleum Memorial Park and install a statue for Lamyanba Hijam Irabot. The site sits in Taungbo-Sedaw, Upper Chindwin District, in Myanmar. This location marks where Irabot spent his final days. Susindro announced the project at his home in Khurai Sajor Leikai. He recently attended a memorial event in Guwahati where he first committed to the plan.

Irabot died on September 26, 1951. He could not return to Manipur because of political pressure from the Congress party. Medical care in Myanmar was scarce back then. Susindro believes the leader would have lived longer if he had made it home. He stated, "a leader from Manipur had breathed his last on Myanmar soil."

No previous efforts existed to honor Irabot at his final resting place. The park aims to preserve his memory for future generations worldwide. Susindro will fund the construction through contributions from like-minded supporters. He hopes the memorial clarifies the struggles Irabot faced while working for the people.
