Manipur MLA Breaks Ground on Irabot Memorial Park in Myanmar

Imphal: Manipur MLA L. Susindro Meitei kicked off work on a memorial park for revolutionary leader Lamyanba Hijam Irabot. The site sits in Taungbo-Sedaw, located in the Upper Chindwin District of Myanmar’s Sagaing Region. This spot serves as Irabot’s final resting place. Susindro traveled to Myanmar to finalize plans and push the construction forward.

A six-member committee now manages the project. They met at Hotel Mingalar in Mandalay to coordinate the effort. Susindro serves as the convenor. Members include Namin Ngangom, Gopal Naorem, Gogaw Sagolshem, Gourashyam Hajirika, and Hilar Devi. Susindro visited the area to honor his promises. "I had travelled to fulfil his commitment to the people," he said while discussing the project in Mandalay.

Neglect and water erosion destroyed much of the original site. The MLA plans to secure the land before building a garden and a memorial. He also wants a statue of Irabot installed, which should take three months to finish. Water-related infrastructure will cost roughly Rs. 15 lakh. The goal is to finish the work quickly and open it to the public.

Susindro also visited the Ibudhou Pakhangba shrine in Amarapura Township to pray. He promised the local Meitei community that he would fix up the shrine. Additionally, he attended the 228th birth anniversary of Raj Sri Bhagyachandra in Mandalay. That event was run by the Rajshri Bhagyachandra Cultural Foundation. They previously gave one crore kyats to help rebuild temples and mandaps damaged by earthquakes in the area.
