Guwahati: The Congress party is bleeding local support in Samaguri. Ahead of the Nagaon by-election, multiple party functionaries walked away from their posts. The resignations hit the Bheluguri-Dipholu Panchayat hard. The Mandal president and secretary both quit. Several members of the Booth Level Organisation and various booth committees joined them.

These workers fueled the party's local election machine. Now, they are gone. The departing group took aim at Congress MP Rakibul Hussain. They pointed to his supposed mistreatment and neglect of the local rank and file as their primary reason for leaving. One statement from the defectors cited "his alleged neglect and misbehaviour towards party workers" as the catalyst for the exodus.

The impact of this rift remains unclear. Mobilization efforts in Samaguri are now in jeopardy. These claims against Hussain are currently unverified. Neither the MP nor the broader Congress organization has provided a response to the accusations yet. The party must act fast to stop the rot before the vote.
