BJP Claims 10,000 Opposition Defectors in Assam Ahead of By-Election

Guwahati: Ten thousand Congress and AIUDF supporters jumped ship to the BJP in Assam. They officially joined the party during a massive event in Rupohihat. The Garajan Mandal BJP organized the gathering to prepare for the Nagaon by-election in the Samaguri constituency. This marks a major shift. The defectors formally accepted the BJP lotus flag under the guidance of leaders Osman Ali and Malek Master.

Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika joined Barchamphur MLA Jitu Goswami and MLA Pradyut Bordoloi at the ceremony. The party brass insists this influx solidifies their standing in the district. Jitu Goswami told the crowd the move guarantees a win. He stated, "The entry of such a large number of opposition workers into the BJP has strengthened the party's prospects and asserted that the BJP candidate's victory in the Samaguri by-election is now certain."

These numbers remain unverified by outside sources. BJP officials hold that this mass movement shifts the local political tide as the vote nears.
