Imphal: More than 1,700 runners took to the streets today for the Dawn Run Kakching 2026. District Police Kakching and Team Kakching Run hosted the event to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Sponsors Yumsha Chicken Egg and Seven Gates Trading LLC backed the race.
Kakching SP Priyadarshini Laishram flagged off the participants at the Office of the SP. Runners tackled either a 7-km or 13-km course. The event sought to boost physical fitness and steer young people toward healthy lifestyles. Local police leadership attended, including Additional SP (LO) L. Sangkerjit, Additional SP (Ops) L. Amarjit, the SDPOs of Kakching and Sugnu, and several station officers.
SP Laishram addressed the crowd during the morning event. She highlighted the dangers posed by drug abuse and general social uncertainty. She said, "Various challenges, including drug-related issues, have created uncertainty for many young people and called for collective efforts to ensure that the youth remain healthy and grow into responsible members of society." Officials hope these collective efforts will build a better society by keeping the next generation healthy.
