Agartala: The Tripura government distributed offer letters to 1,452 teachers on Wednesday at the International Fair Ground in Hapania. The recruitment included 686 graduate teachers for Classes 9 and 10 and 766 teachers for Classes 6 through 8. These roles were filled through the Selection Test for Graduate Teachers and Teacher Eligibility Test Paper-II.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha defended the state hiring record. He claimed the government prioritized merit and transparency. "The objective of the state government is to build a skilled and developed Tripura through the expansion of quality education," Saha said. The Chief Minister added that the state has provided 23,986 regular jobs and 26,000 outsourced positions across various departments.
Protests persist. Hundreds of job seekers gathered outside the venue to demand immediate action. They remain frustrated. Qualified candidates have spent two years lobbying the Teachers' Recruitment Board, Tripura. Their patience has run out. On September 24, police used water cannons and arrests to clear a sit-in outside Shiksha Bhavan.
The government offers no relief for primary TET-1 candidates. Their hiring remains blocked by litigation in the Tripura High Court regarding the accuracy of exam questions. The court recently ordered additional marks for some candidates, which may force a total revision of the merit list. Around 3,000 candidates attempted the disputed question.
Saha urged these protesters to stop their sit-in, which began during Durga Puja. He insisted the government is aware of the situation. "I would urge them to have faith," he said. Meanwhile, candidates point out that 700 people who passed TET-2 remain unplaced. Another 2,176 vacant posts remain unfilled. Many candidates fear they will hit the age limit of 40 before the courts reach a decision.
The Education Department also reported infrastructure updates. These include ICT schemes for 1,389 schools and smart classrooms in 1,210 facilities. The government distributed 1,64,000 bicycles and iPads to students. Officials including Secretary Milind Ramteke, SCERT Director L. Darlong, and Dr. Samit Roy Choudhury attended the ceremony.
