Shillong: The Meghalaya state government pushed 91.01 crore into the pockets of 87,691 Scheduled Tribe students. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma released the funds on August 27. Cash hit bank accounts within four working days. Efficiency is up. The Education department used the SNA-SPARSH system to link the Reserve Bank of India directly to students, cutting out the middlemen.
Total demand for the 2025-26 academic year sits at 198.43 crore. Officials have secured 93.95 crore so far. This includes a central share of 84.55 crore and 9.40 crore from the state. Expect more cash later. The government plans to pay out the rest in subsequent instalments. This five-part payment structure aims to stop the long wait times that plagued the old system.
Technical hurdles stalled payments for 9,121 applicants out of the 96,812 verified files. Errors involve bad bank details or missing Aadhaar links. The department warned that payments remain frozen until these fixes happen. "Students have been urged to apply early and ensure their bank accounts are Aadhaar-seeded to avoid payment delays," officials stated.
The clock is ticking for the next cycle. Applications for the 2026-27 year are live on the National Scholarship Portal. Students must submit their forms before the November 30 deadline.
