Shillong: The Meghalaya Police scrapped its President's Colour Presentation Ceremony on Saturday. The event was set for October 5 at Shillong's J.N. Stadium. Officials confirmed the cancellation follows the sudden nixing of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's two-day trip to the state. Shah was supposed to act as chief guest and award the honour to the force for its professionalism and service.

Authorities cited unavoidable circumstances for the change. Police issued a brief statement on the matter. "It is hereby informed that the President's Colour Presentation Ceremony for Meghalaya Police scheduled to be held on Monday the 5th October, 2026 at J.N. Stadium, Shillong stands cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances," the department stated. Officials urged the public, media, and dignitaries to take note of the change.

Security preparations had already reached a high level. Roughly 1,500 personnel were deployed across Shillong to handle traffic and perimeter security for the Minister's visit. The President's Colour remains a top honor from the Ministry of Home Affairs. The police force expects to announce a new date for the event later. No further details on the schedule changes were provided.
