Shillong Prepares for Durga Puja Security Blitz

Shillong: Shillong is getting ready for Durga Puja. Preparations are in full swing as committees build pandals across the city. The five-day festival kicks off on October 16 and wraps up on October 20.

The Central Puja Committee met with the District Administration to coordinate security. They want fast permit approvals and extra police patrols. East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal promised a heavy security presence. He said, "We will have CCTV cameras, Home Guards and other personnel deployed at over 60 puja pandals in the district."

Safety remains a top priority. Officials flagged low-hanging MeECL power lines at several sites as a fire hazard. Work crews are now rushing to finish the immersion ghat in time for the final day. Inspectors recently visited the site and told the contractor to pick up the pace.
