Deepak Debnath Sentenced to Six Years for 2022 Knife Attack

Shillong: Deepak Debnath will spend six years in prison. The District and Sessions Court in Shillong handed down the sentence for a brutal 2022 knife attack on a minor boy. The case concluded after District and Sessions Judge DR Kharbteng convicted Debnath on October 7.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed the sentence. Beyond the prison time, the court ordered Debnath to pay a Rs 10,000 fine. He faces an extra month behind bars if he fails to pay. The ordeal began on August 22, 2022, when a victim filed an FIR at the Bholaganj Police Outpost.
