Shillong: A Special POCSO Court in Shillong sentenced Abdul Khudus to three years in prison. The conviction ends an 11-year legal battle. The case dates back to September 28, 2015, when the family filed an FIR at Madanrting Police Station. They accused Khudus of molesting a seven-year-old girl.
Police registered the complaint as Case No. 117(9)2015. Charges included criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the IPC and sexual assault under Section 8 of the POCSO Act. Officers arrested the man and filed a chargesheet on April 9, 2016.
Special Judge M.K. Lyngdoh handed down the verdict in Special (POCSO) Case No. 21 of 2016 on July 28, 2026. The judge fined the convict Rs 20,000. He must serve an additional six months if he fails to pay. Regarding the sentencing, the Superintendent of Police for East Khasi Hills confirmed the outcome in an official statement: "The convict has already spent two months and one day in custody and will now serve the remaining sentence of two years, nine months and 29 days."
The court also tacked on a two-year sentence for intimidation. Khudus will serve his time in state custody.
