Shillong: A Special POCSO Court in Shillong sentenced Pyntngenlang Nongsiej to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the sexual assault of a seven-year-old boy. The conviction stems from an investigation into a March 16, 2020, complaint filed at the Lumdiengjri police station. Judge R Rymbai imposed a Rs 10,000 fine, with an additional six months of jail time if the convict fails to pay. Nongsiej previously spent nine months and four days in detention, which the court will deduct from his total sentence.

Retired Sub-Inspector S.A. Sangma handled the probe. Police filed the charge sheet on January 28, 2022. This comes as another man faces prison time for a separate 2016 offense.

In that case, the Special POCSO Court sentenced Batskhembor Diengdoh to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl with a mental disability. The incident occurred on October 17, 2016. An FIR followed at the Nongthymmai police station under Section 5(k) of the POCSO Act. The judge handed down the sentence on September 25, 2026, alongside a Rs 30,000 fine. Failure to pay triggers three extra months in jail. CID officer B M Kharakor led the investigation. According to the East Khasi Hills district police, "Diengdoh had already spent three months and two days in custody." He must serve the remainder of his term behind bars.
