Shillong: A Meghalaya court sentenced Teren Mawlieh to 30 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting his minor stepdaughter. The Special POCSO Court in Shillong delivered the verdict on August 28, 2026. Special Judge MK Lyngdoh presided over the case.
The ordeal started with an FIR filed at Mawngap police station on December 7, 2020. Police arrested Mawlieh during the investigation and filed a chargesheet on February 5, 2021. The case was investigated by WPSI L. Kharjana. East Khasi Hills police released these details on September 1.
The court convicted Mawlieh under Sections 4, 6, 8, and 10 of the POCSO Act. For Section 6, the judge ordered 30 years of rigorous imprisonment and a 40,000 rupee fine. Defaulting on this payment adds four months to his term. Additional sentences were handed down for the other sections, carrying fines ranging from 10,000 to 30,000 rupees. The court noted that "Mawlieh had served three years, 11 months and 28 days by the time of the order." He must serve 26 years and two days more.
