Shillong: Two unidentified suspects on a two-wheeler targeted the Laban police station in Shillong with petrol bombs early Saturday. The attack happened at 2.30 am on September 12. The pair tossed two Molotov cocktails into the premises before speeding away. The flames ignited inside the station grounds, but police doused the fire quickly. No injuries occurred.
Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed the attack, noting that no arrests have been made. CCTV cameras caught the incident on tape. Police are currently reviewing the footage and gathering evidence from the scene. The investigation is ongoing. Officials have not determined a motive, though Syiem stated, "Police, however, have not ruled out the possible involvement of groups supporting the demand for implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya."
Security in the region remains tight. This strike follows a string of recent arson attacks and violence across Meghalaya. Authorities have stepped up security in Shillong as they hunt for the suspects.

Two police officers on duty had a close call during the 2.30 am attack. Surveillance footage shows the pair standing outside the station when the bombs landed, forcing them to scramble for cover. While the officers walked away unharmed, one of the petrol bombs scorched the hood of a police gypsy parked on site.
The strike hit just hours after authorities arrested Banjoplang Dkhar, the Shillong Mihngi Circle president of the KSU, for his alleged role in the August 19 violence. Officials have not yet officially tied the bombing to Dkhar's arrest.

The arrest of Banjoplang Dkhar, president of the KSU Shillong Mihngi Circle, occurred Friday night near NEIGRIHMS. A local court remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody on Saturday. This brings the total number of KSU leaders arrested for the August 19 bike rally violence to six.
Other key figures currently in custody include president Raymond Kharjana, vice president Pynkmenlang Sanmiet, general secretary Reuben Najiar, Nongmensong unit president Jeremaiah Pothmi, and Mihngi Circle general secretary Samuel Kharbani. Police have slapped the suspects with charges under the Meghalaya Maintenance of Public Order Act, the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, and the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
