Shillong: East Khasi Hills police are juggling three separate criminal inquiries this week. Officers are investigating sexual exploitation claims, a fatal case involving a minor, and the aftermath of a violent tourist rampage.

Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed that authorities have begun looking into viral social media posts accusing a Shillong man of long-term sexual exploitation. The allegations claim the man blackmailed multiple women with private videos to keep them quiet. One woman allegedly became pregnant. No formal victim complaints exist yet, but the police are pushing forward based on the digital evidence.

In a separate case, police arrested three adults and detained three teenagers for wrecking the Oakwood Homestay in Risa Colony. The group fled after threatening staff and refusing to pay their bill. The owner filed an FIR on July 11. Police tracked the suspects across state lines, catching them in Alipurduar, West Bengal, on July 13 at 4:45 pm. The adults, identified as Vikas Singh, Avinash Singh, and Akand Pratap Singh, were released on bail by the Chief Judicial Magistrate. Three 17-year-olds remain with the Juvenile Justice Board. They face charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Syiem addressed the specific complaint regarding the hotel, stating, "With regard to the incident that took place at Oakwood Homestay in Risa Colony, we received a complaint on July 11 alleging that two persons threatened to damage the guest house and left without paying the bill."

Finally, detectives are probing the July 9 death of a 15-year-old girl from Wahlong village. The girl worked as domestic help in Shillong. She died while her parents were away. Police noted a prior argument between the girl and her mother concerning land documents. Officials have finished the post-mortem exam and are currently waiting for the final report to dictate the next steps in this unnatural death case.
