Shillong: A Hyundai i10 owned by an Assam Police officer was found burnt to a shell near the Langpih area of West Khasi Hills. Locals discovered the wreckage at Mawsikar village on Wednesday morning. The vehicle, registered as AS01 DH 7347, sat near the Assam Police camp.
West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Herbert Kharkongor received word of the fire at 7 am from the Mawsikar village headman. Officers rushed to the scene. They spoke with the headman, the secretary, and other village elders to piece together what happened.
Investigators believe the blaze started around 4 am. The exact cause stays unknown. A sweep of the area revealed no evidence of foul play or hidden explosives. Kharkongor stated, "The cause has not been established."
Assam Police started their own internal review of the incident. No formal complaint or FIR had hit the books at the Langpih Border Outpost by press time. Officials report that the region is calm and normal.
