Shillong: Home Minister Prestone Tynsong declared Meghalaya safe for travelers on August 28. He confirmed that law and order are back to normal across the state. The government wants visitors to flock to Shillong without fear. Officials have ordered district administrations to stay alert. They must keep all tourists safe while they enjoy the local beauty.
"We have already instructed all the concerned district administrations to be more alert and to make sure that the tourists coming in or going out from our state are safe and they enjoy the beauty of Shillong or the beauty of Meghalaya," Tynsong said. Authorities have installed new safety mechanisms to protect visitors. Tynsong held talks with the Khasi Students' Union and various stakeholders to address recent tensions.
Police have filed several FIRs regarding recent violence. The government intends to let legal proceedings unfold without interference. "Let the law take its own course," Tynsong added.
The state also faces political shifts. Dr. Kharlukhi, a founder of the National People's Party, resigned from his post. Tynsong expressed regret over the exit but noted that leaders switching parties is common. He cited personal reasons for the departure. Despite the shakeup, the minister insists the state is ready for business.
