Shillong: Investigators have made zero progress in the deaths of Prinomi and Simanta Hajong. Forty days have passed since the couple died. Police found the 22-year-old woman and 21-year-old man inside a small roadside shed at Lumsohphoh in Nongthymmai on June 14. The bodies sat in a position suggesting partial hanging, leading authorities to label the incident a double suicide. This site is just 50 metres from the shop where they both worked.
Families and community groups reject the official suicide theory. They continue to wait for a delayed post-mortem report that remains missing. This wait fuels local frustration. In a Thursday statement, the Hajong Students Youth Voice expressed deep concern over the ongoing silence from officials. “The silence surrounding the post-mortem report has left the families living with uncertainty,” the organization stated.
The HSYV claims the victims' relatives wake up daily to unanswered questions and fading hope. They demand transparency and truth to ensure justice for the deceased. East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem maintains the probe is active. He stated, “Investigation is in progress and we are now awaiting the post-mortem reports.” The student group vows to keep supporting the families while pushing for a fair and dignified conclusion to the case.
