Police Probe Suspicious Fire and Petrol Bomb Attempt in Mawbah

Shillong: Panic gripped Mawbah on Saturday night. A suspected petrol bomb hit a local fast-food outlet around 9:45 pm, but the device failed to go off. Rangbah Shnong Aresstone Thabah confirmed the incident after residents alerted him to the threat. No witnesses saw who threw the bomb.

Trouble escalated just minutes later. Another call reached Thabah regarding a vehicle fire near the community hall. A scooty owned by Rameshwar Prasad sat on the shortcut road between Mawbah and Lower Mawprem. It was gutted by flames.

Police from the Jhalupara outpost arrived shortly after the reports. East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed the department is looking into the damage to the abandoned vehicle. "We are enquiring into the matter," Syiem stated. Officers are now digging for leads in both cases.
