Two Men Caught Fishing Illegally in Rilang River

Shillong: Members of the Nongnah unit of the Synjuk Nongkhwai Dohkha caught two men red-handed while they were using illegal nets in the Rilang River. The group apprehended the pair and summoned them to Nongnah village on Saturday.

Both men confessed to the mass killing of fish during a trial held by the organization. Michael Donal Lyngdoh, the unit president, reported that the men sought forgiveness and promised to support future conservation efforts. They walked free after receiving a stern warning. Lyngdoh stated, "The Synjuk’s commitment to protecting aquatic life across all rivers and streams within the Ranikor Civil Sub-Division" remains firm.

The organization now warns that any future use of nets, dynamite, or poisonous chemicals will result in heavy fines. Offenders will also face immediate legal action from state authorities.
